Sight Word “help” Worksheet – Trace, Write and Find
“Help” is a kind word that children use every day: “help me”, “can I help?”. Reading it makes chores and games a little more fun.
What’s on the “help” worksheet
Read and trace “help”, write it alone, circle it among hold, held, hello, yelp and hop, then trace “I can help Mum.”
Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).
How to teach “help”
Help can be sounded out, h-e-l-p, but the l and p blend quickly at the end. Ask your child to say it slowly with you, touching a finger for each sound. Then use it for real: write “help” notes for small jobs they can do.

- Can you help me?
- I help Dad cook.
- We help the cat get down.

Try “make” and “play” next: they finish lots of helpful sentences.
Questions about “help”
My child says help but writes hep. Why?
The l is quiet when we say help quickly. Ask your child to say it slowly and feel their tongue go up for the l.
Is help a sight word if it can be sounded out?
Yes. Dolch lists include it because it is very common, not because it is hard. Learning it by sight helps reading flow.
