What’s on the “jump” worksheet

Read and trace “jump”, write it alone, circle it among bump, jam, pump, jug and lump, then trace “The frog can jump.”

How to teach “jump”

Jump has four sounds, j-u-m-p. The m and p blend at the end, so say it slowly together and jump once for each sound. Then read it in short commands your child can follow, like “jump up” and “jump three times”.

  • I can jump high.
  • Jump over the stick.
  • The frog can jump.
  • Let’s jump on the bed.

Game: Jump to the word

Lay five word cards on the floor in a row. Call out one word and your child jumps to it and reads it. Add the word jump itself in the row; when they land on it, they do three big jumps.

Practise next

Try “run” and “play” next: they are the other action words on the list.

Questions about “jump”

My child writes jup. What helps?

The m is easy to miss because it is quiet before p. Ask your child to hum the m sound with closed lips before they say p.

Is jump good for active learners?

Very. Children who struggle to sit still often learn action words like jump, run and play fastest because they can move while reading.
