What’s on the “now” worksheet

Read and trace “now”, write it alone, circle it among no, own, won, new and how, then trace “Can we go now?”

Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).

How to teach “now”

Now has the ow sound, as in cow and how. Make a cow moo-ing “ow” noise to remember it. Then use it in a quick routine: first-then-now. “First we eat, then we wash, now we read.” Write the three steps on a chart.

Sentences with “now”

  • It is time for bed now.
  • Can we go now?
  • Now I am six!
  • The sun is out now.

Game: Now freeze!

Play a moving game. Say “Hop… now freeze!” or “Spin… now sit!” Write each “now” command on a card for your child to read and call out to you. Take turns being the leader.

Practise next

Try “soon” and “no” next: soon is another time word, and no looks very similar.

Questions about “now”

Why does now sound different from no?

The w changes the sound. Ow often says /ow/, as in cow and how.

How do I explain now to a young child?

Use it with first and then: first one thing, then another, and now this. A simple picture timetable helps.
