How to teach “where”

Show your child that where hides the word here inside it. Cover the wh to reveal here, then uncover it. Say that wh-words often ask questions: where, what, when. Read it with a curious, questioning voice and a shrug.

Sentences with “where”

  • Where is my hat?
  • Where do you live?
  • Where is the cat?
  • Where did the ball go?

Game: Where is teddy?

Hide a teddy somewhere in a room. Write “Where is teddy?” on a card. Your child reads the question and then searches. When they find teddy, they say a sentence about the place, like “in the box”.
