What’s on the “and” worksheet

Read and trace “and”, write it alone, circle it among an, hand, end, sand and ant, then trace “Me and my dog.”

Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).

How to teach “and”

And can be sounded out, a-n-d, which makes it a good confidence builder. Say it slowly with your child, then fast. Show how it glues two ideas: hold up a spoon in one hand and a cup in the other and say “spoon and cup”.

Sentences with “and”

  • I like milk and cake.
  • The cat and the dog play.
  • Come and see my fish.
  • Mum and I go to the park.

Game: And-chains

Take turns adding to a list that starts with “I packed a bag with…”. Each player repeats the list and adds one more item with and: “a hat and a ball and a book”. Write the last chain down and circle every and.

Practise next

Try “a” and “the” next: and usually joins phrases that begin with these two words.

Questions about “and”

Can my child sound out and?

Yes. And is one of the few sight words that follows the usual letter sounds, so encourage blending a-n-d before they learn to recognise it at a glance.

Why does and keep getting mixed up with an?

They start the same way. Ask your child to check the last letter: and always ends with a d, like a little door closing the word.
