Sight Word “for” Worksheet – Trace, Write and Find
“For” is a small helper word that shows who or what something is meant for: “a gift for you”, “time for bed”.
What’s on the “for” worksheet
Read and trace “for”, write it alone, circle it among far, fork, from, fur and or, then trace “A cake for you.”
Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).
How to teach “for”
For sounds just like the number four, so children may confuse them in writing. Make a card with for on one side and 4 on the other and talk about how they sound the same but mean different things. Practise it in phrases rather than alone.
Sentences with “for”
- This is for you.
- It is time for bed.
- I made a card for Mum.
- We wait for the bus.
Game: Gift wrap
Wrap small toys in paper or put them in bags. Each bag gets a tag that reads “for” plus a name or a picture of a toy. Your child reads the tag and delivers the bag to the right person or teddy.
Practise next
Try “you” and “me” next: they often finish a phrase with for.
Questions about “for”
How do I explain for and four?
Tell your child they sound the same but have different jobs: 4 counts things and for tells who something is meant for. Draw them side by side.
Why is for hard to read alone?
It does not name anything, so it has no picture in a child’s mind. Reading it in short phrases like “for you” gives it meaning.
