What’s on the “funny” worksheet

Read and trace “funny”, write it alone, circle it among fun, bunny, sunny, fuzzy and runny, then trace “A funny clown.”

Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).

How to teach “funny”

Funny has two beats, fun-ny, and the first part is the word fun, which many children can already sound out. Show them the double n and the y at the end that says “ee”. Pull a funny face each time you read it together.

Sentences with “funny”

  • That is a funny hat.
  • My dog is funny.
  • Tell me a funny joke.
  • We saw a funny clown.

Game: Funny face flip

Make cards that each show a word, and slip in several funny cards. Flip them one by one. When funny appears, everyone pulls their silliest face for three seconds before reading the next card.

Practise next

Try “little” and “big” next: they describe things in a fun way.

Questions about “funny”

Why does funny have two n’s?

The double n keeps the u short, so it says “fun” and not “fyoo”. Children will see the same pattern in bunny and sunny.

How do I help my child spell the end of funny?

Tell them the letter y at the end of a two-beat word often says “ee”, as in happy, sunny and funny.
