Lowercase Letter e Tracing Worksheet
Lowercase e is the most common letter in English. It is the only letter that starts in the middle, which makes it a little unusual to learn.
What’s on the lowercase e worksheet
Big dotted e letters, two tracing rows, the words egg, elephant, ear and envelope, and a row to circle e among c, o, a.
How to write lowercase e
Start in the middle of the middle space. Draw a short straight line to the right, then curve up and back over the top, down the left side and round the bottom, stopping before you close it.
Where e sits on the lines
The e sits in the middle space. Its middle bar should be about halfway between the dashed line and the baseline.
What to watch for
Children often start e at the top like c. Pointing to the start in the very middle of the letter helps.
Words to trace
🥚 egg · 🐘 elephant · 👂 ear · ✉️ envelope
Activity: Egg crack e
Draw an egg shape and a crack across the middle. Your child starts at the crack and draws around the egg: that is an e. Practise on five eggs, then colour the egg that is the neatest.
Try this at home
Write a big e in shaving foam or yoghurt on a tray. The slippery surface makes the change from straight line to curve feel smooth, and wiping it clean is half the fun.
Same letter family
Round “c” letters: c · o · a · d
Capital E: letter E tracing · Joined-up: cursive e
Lowercase e questions
Why does e start in the middle?
Its first stroke is the small bar, then it curves around. Starting in the middle keeps the bar straight and level.
My child’s e looks like a c. What helps?
Remind them to draw the line first, then curve. A tiny dot in the middle of the space can mark the start.
