Lowercase Letter k Tracing Worksheet
Lowercase k is a tall stick with two little slanting lines, like a kick. It is one of the trickier straight-line letters to get just right.
What’s on the lowercase k worksheet
Big dotted k letters, two tracing rows, the words kite, key, kangaroo and koala, and a row to circle k among h, l, x.
How to write lowercase k
Start at the top line and pull a stick down to the baseline. Lift the pencil, start at the dashed line on the right and slant in to touch the stick, then slant back out to the baseline.
Where k sits on the lines
The stick reaches the top line. The two slanting lines stay in the middle space.
What to watch for
Children sometimes make the slants as tall as an uppercase K. Keep them small, inside the middle space.
Words to trace
🪁 kite · 🔑 key · 🦘 kangaroo · 🐨 koala
Activity: Karate kick
Stand up and do a karate kick: one arm straight down (the stick), then kick in and out (the two slants). Your child says “stick, in, out” as they trace each k.
Try this at home
Play kick-ball with a soft toy: say “stick” as you stand still and “kick” as you kick. Then trace the k, saying stick for the tall line and kick for the slants.

Lowercase k questions
How tall should the slants in k be?
They start at the dashed line, so they are about half the height of the stick.
Can k be written without lifting the pencil?
Some styles do, but lifting once makes the slants neater for young children.
