Lowercase Letter s Tracing Worksheet
Lowercase s is a wiggly snake shape that changes direction halfway. It takes practice because it curves both ways.
What’s on the lowercase s worksheet
Big dotted s letters, two tracing rows, the words sun, snail, sock and strawberry, and a row to circle s among z, c, e.
How to write lowercase s
Start near the dashed line on the right. Curve back over the top to the left, swing down across the middle to the right, then curve back round along the baseline to finish on the left.
Where s sits on the lines
The s sits in the middle space, the same height as a, c and o.
What to watch for
Backwards s is very common at first. Starting with a small c curve at the top keeps it the right way round.
Words to trace
☀️ sun · 🐌 snail · 🧦 sock · 🍓 strawberry
Activity: Snake slither
Roll a play dough snake and lay it into an s shape. Your child traces along the snake with a finger, hissing all the way, then draws three s shapes on the worksheet.
Try this at home
Slither like a snake on the carpet in an s shape, starting at the top. Once your child has moved through the curve with their whole body, tracing it feels much easier.

Lowercase s questions
