What’s on the “four” worksheet

Read and trace “four”, write it alone, circle it among for, fur, our, pour and foul, then trace “A dog has four legs.”

Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).

How to teach “four”

Hold up four fingers and write the digit 4 next to the word. Point out that four has a u that for does not have, and that the u is quiet. Count sets of four around the house: four chair legs, four corners on a book. Each time, say and touch the word.

Sentences with “four”

  • A dog has four legs.
  • I am four years old.
  • Four ducks swim by.
  • The car has four wheels.

Game: Four corners

Put a word card in each corner of the room: four, for, fun and from. Call out a sentence, such as “I have four socks”, and your child runs to the corner with the right word. Change the sentence each time so they really read the cards.

Practise next

Try “for” and “our” next: they share letters with four and are easy to mix up, so they are worth practising side by side.
