Sight Word “like” Worksheet – Trace, Write and Find
“Like” is how children tell us what they enjoy: “I like dogs”, “I like pizza”. Because it is so personal, it is one of the most motivating words to learn.
What’s on the “like” worksheet
Read and trace “like”, write it alone, circle it among lick, lake, bike, kite and lime, then trace “I like to paint.”
Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).
How to teach “like”
The silent e at the end makes the i say its name, like in bike and kite. Make a “Things I like” poster together: your child writes or traces “I like” at the start of each line, then draws a picture to finish it.
Sentences with “like”
- I like to paint.
- Do you like apples?
- We like the park.
- My cat likes milk.
Game: Like it or not?
Hold up pictures of foods, animals and activities. Your child reads a card that says “I like…” or “I do not like…” and chooses one for each picture. Count the likes at the end.
Practise next
Try “want” and “good” next: they help children talk about what they enjoy.
Questions about “like”
Why does like need an e at the end?
The silent e changes the short i into a long i. Without it the word would be lik, which is not a word.
My child reads like as look. What helps?
Ask them to check the letter after the l. An i means like; two o’s mean look.
