Lowercase Letter g Tracing Worksheet
Lowercase g starts like a and then drops below the line into a curly tail. It is the first letter many children meet that hangs below the baseline.
What’s on the lowercase g worksheet
Big dotted g letters, two tracing rows, the words goat, grapes, guitar and gift, and a row to circle g among q, p, y.
How to write lowercase g
Start at the dashed line and make a c curve back up to close the circle. Go straight down past the baseline into the space below, then hook the tail round to the left.
Where g sits on the lines
The round part sits in the middle space and the tail drops into the space below the baseline.
What to watch for
The tail sometimes curls the wrong way, making a backwards g. Remind your child the hook turns like a fish hook to the left.
Words to trace
🐐 goat · 🍇 grapes · 🎸 guitar · 🎁 gift
Activity: Fishing for g
Draw a pond below the baseline. Your child traces a g and the tail becomes a fishing hook dipping into the pond. Add a fish next to each hook they finish.
Try this at home
Thread a pipe cleaner through a ring and bend the end into a hook to make a 3D g. Your child can run a finger round the circle and down into the hook before tracing.
