What’s on the cursive g worksheet

Cursive G and g to copy, dotted g rows to trace and join, the words goat, gift and gum, and a line for your child’s own g.

How to write cursive g

Make the lead-in and oval just like cursive a. Then pull straight down below the baseline, curve to the left and loop back up to finish on the baseline.

What to watch for

Watch that the tail loops to the left and comes back up; if it stops, the next letter cannot join.

Joining g to other letters

The tail of g climbs back up from below the line before it joins on, so the next letter begins from the baseline, as in gum. Practise ga, go and gu, then write gum and dog. Each g should end on the baseline ready for the next letter.

Words to trace in cursive

Activity: Fishing loop g

Draw a pond below the baseline. Your child traces each g and the loop becomes a fishing line dipping into the pond.

Cursive g questions

How is cursive g different from y?

g starts with a round oval; y starts with an overcurve and a cup shape.

Should the loop of g be closed?

Yes. The tail comes back up and crosses the down stroke at the baseline, which closes the loop and sets up the join.
