Cursive Letter a Tracing Worksheet
Cursive a is the first of the round downcurve letters. Once your child can make it smoothly, d, g, o, q and c feel familiar straight away.
What’s on the cursive a worksheet
Cursive A and a to copy, dotted a rows to trace and join, the words ant, apple and arm, and a line for your child’s own a.
How to write cursive a
Begin with a small overcurve up to the dashed line, then curve back down and round to the left to make an oval. Close it at the top, pull straight down to the baseline and finish with a little undercurve to the right.
What to watch for
Watch that the oval closes at the top. If it stays open, cursive a starts to look like a u.
Joining a to other letters
Because a ends low on the baseline, the pencil can swing straight on into almost any letter, which is why words such as at and am flow so well. Practise the joins at, an and ap, then read the words cat and map in cursive together.
