Lowercase Letter b Tracing Worksheet
Lowercase b is a tall letter with a round tummy at the bottom. It is also the letter most often flipped into d, so a clear starting habit helps a lot.
What’s on the lowercase b worksheet
Big dotted b letters, two tracing rows, the words bus, banana, bee and bread, and a row to circle b among d, p, h.
How to write lowercase b
Start at the top line and pull a straight stick down to the baseline. Without lifting, climb back up to the dashed line and swing a round bump out to the right and back down to close it at the bottom.
Where b sits on the lines
The stick reaches from the top line to the baseline. The round part stays in the middle space.
What to watch for
The b and d swap is very common until about age seven. Remember: b starts with the stick, d starts with the circle.
Words to trace
🚌 bus · 🍌 banana · 🐝 bee · 🍞 bread
Activity: Bat and ball
Tell your child b is a bat first, then a ball: draw the stick (bat) and then the bump (ball). Say “bat, then ball” as they trace each b on the worksheet.
Try this at home
Make a b with your body: stand tall with one arm straight down as the stick, then curve the other arm in front of your tummy. Children who feel the shape this way often stop reversing it sooner.

Lowercase b questions
How can I stop my child mixing up b and d?
Teach b as stick first and d as circle first. A quick “bed” picture, where the b and d are the bedposts, also helps.
Is it normal to write b backwards at five?
Yes, letter reversals are very common at this age and usually fade with practice.
