Her has the er sound, the same as in sister and water. Point to the er and teach it as a chunk. Then use it with family photos or a book: whose hat is this? It is her hat. Practise with him and his at the same time so your child hears the pattern.

FAQ: “her”

What is the difference between her and she?

She does the action (she runs). Her has the action done to her, or shows ownership (I see her; her bag).

Is the er in her the same as in ladder?

Yes, the sound is similar. Learning er as a chunk helps with many words like her, after and sister.
