Learn first, then practise

Pages 1–2 of the PDF is a learn-first chart: every animal in the set with a clear photo and its name. Look at it together before the activity pages. Say each name aloud, point to favourites and read the fun facts, so your child knows all the animals before being asked to match, circle or trace them.

What’s in the animal worksheets

  1. Learn first: a picture-and-name chart of all 14 animals, each with a photo, the name in big letters and one fun fact (pages 1–2).
  2. Match the animal to its name: draw a line from five photos to five names.
  3. Circle the right animal: read a name, then circle it in a row of three photos.
  4. Trace the animal names: dog, cat, owl, goat, frog and lion, with space to write.

Play the animal quiz first

Children remember names better after they have played with them. Try the animal quiz for kids (it works on a phone), then print these pages for quiet practice.

Make it noisy

On the learn-first chart, point to each animal and make its sound together: woof, meow, baa, hee-haw, cock-a-doodle-doo. Children remember names much better when they have said and copied the sound.

Printing tips

The learn-first chart looks best in colour; the activity pages print well in colour or greyscale. Choose A4 or US Letter and “Fit to page”. For repeated use, slip the pages into a plastic sleeve and use a dry-wipe marker.
