Learn first, then practise

Pages 1–2 of the PDF is a learn-first chart: every planet or space object in the set with a clear photo and its name. Look at it together before the activity pages. Say each name aloud, point to favourites and read the fun facts, so your child knows all the planets and space objects before being asked to match, circle or trace them.

What’s in the solar system worksheets

  1. Learn first: a picture-and-name chart of all 14 planets and space objects, each with a photo, the name in big letters and one fun fact (pages 1–2).
  2. Match the planet to its name: draw a line from five photos to five names.
  3. Circle the right picture: read a name, then circle it in a row of three photos.
  4. Trace the space words: Sun, Moon, Mars, Earth, Pluto and Venus, with space to write.

Play the solar system quiz first

Children remember names better after they have played with them. Try the solar system quiz for kids (it works on a phone), then print these pages for quiet practice.

The planets in order

From the Sun outwards: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The first four are small and rocky. The last four are giants made mostly of gas and ice. A simple rhyme helps: “My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming”.

Printing tips

The learn-first chart looks best in colour, because the planets are easiest to tell apart by their colours. The activity pages print well in colour or greyscale. Choose A4 or US Letter and “Fit to page”.

Solar System worksheet questions

What ages are these solar system worksheets for?

Ages 3 to 7. Younger children can match and circle with help; children who are starting to write can trace the names.

Is Pluto a planet?

Pluto is a dwarf planet. It was called the ninth planet until 2006. We include it on the learn-first chart because children love it.

Can I use these worksheets in my classroom?

Yes. They are free for home and classroom use. Please share the page link rather than re-uploading the PDF.
