Number 11 Tracing Worksheet (Eleven)
Eleven is the first number after ten, and it is often the first one children find surprising: two 1s side by side, but it means ten and one more. This page lets your child trace it, see it in two ten frames and count eleven apples.
What’s on the number 11 worksheet
A dashed 11 with arrows, the word eleven, ten frames showing 10 + 1, four tracing rows and 11 apples to count and colour.
Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).
How to write 11
Write the first 1 starting at the green dot: a tiny slant up, then a straight line down. Lift the pencil, leave a small space, and make the second 1 exactly the same. Both sticks should be the same height, standing like a pair of goalposts.
Ten and one
The left 1 is not really one: it stands for one whole ten. The right 1 is one single extra. Fill one ten frame, put one counter in the next, and say “ten and one is eleven” while pointing to each digit.
What to watch for
Children sometimes say “onety-one” or write 11 as 1 1 with a wide gap. Both are signs they are working out the pattern, which is a good thing. Point out that eleven is a special name that does not follow the teen rule.
Counting idea for eleven
Line up ten toy cars in a garage, then park one more outside. Count the garage first, then add the visitor. Children learn that they do not have to start again from one; they can count on from ten.
Game: Football team line-up
A football (soccer) team puts eleven players on the pitch. Line up eleven soft toys as a team, give each a number from 1 to 11 on a sticky note, and call them out in order. Then mix up the notes and let your child put the team back in order.
Where you see 11
Eleven players in a football or cricket team, the 11 on a clock just before noon, and the eleventh day on the calendar.

Number 11 questions
Why is eleven not called “oneteen”?
The word comes from an old Germanic phrase meaning “one left over” after counting ten. Eleven and twelve are the two irregular names before the teens begin, so children simply need to learn them by heart.
How do I stop my child writing 11 as 1?
Ask them to count the sticks they have drawn and compare with eleven counters in ten frames. Saying “one ten, one more” as they write each 1 makes the two digits feel necessary.
