Helping your child learn “because”
Because is long and tricky: be-cause, and the au says “o” or “u” depending on accent. Break it into two chunks and clap them. A popular trick is the phrase “big elephants can always understand small elephants”, where the first letters spell because. Then ask lots of why questions and answer with because.
Play Because chains
One player says a fact: I wore a coat. The next adds a reason with because: because it was cold. The next adds another reason: because it was winter. See how long the chain can go.
Where to go next
After this one, move on to “why” and “which” (why asks the question that because answers, and which is another joining word).
