Sight Word “new” Worksheet – Trace, Write and Find
“New” describes something we have not had before: new shoes, a new friend, a new day. Children are often excited about new things, so the word comes with good feelings.
What’s on the “new” worksheet
Read and trace “new”, write it alone, circle it among now, few, net, sew and knew, then trace “I have new shoes.”
Prints on A4 or US Letter (choose “Fit to page”).
How to teach “new”
The letters ew make the oo sound, like in few, chew and blew. Draw a little shoe and say “new shoe” together. Then look for new things in your home, such as a new book or a new toothbrush, and stick a word card on each.
Sentences with “new”
- I have new shoes.
- We have a new puppy.
- Is that a new book?
- Happy new year!
Game: Old or new?
Put a few toys on the table, some well loved and some newer. Your child picks one, decides if it is old or new and reads a sentence card: “This is a new car.” Then they tell you something new they learned today.
Practise next
Try “now” and “no” next: they start the same way, so they help your child look past the first letter.
Questions about “new”
