What’s on the purple worksheet

Trace purple, circle the purple things among eight pictures, colour the dotted squares to find a hidden butterfly and trace “Grapes can be purple.”

Things that are purple

  • Grapes, plums, aubergines (eggplants) and red cabbage
  • Violets, lavender and lilac flowers
  • Some butterflies and sea creatures
  • Magic wands and costumes in story books
  • Beetroot juice on a plate

Mixing purple

Purple is a secondary colour: mix red and blue paint. More blue gives a cool violet; more red gives a warm plum colour. A little white makes lilac or lavender.

Shades of purple

Light purples are lilac and lavender. Middle purples include violet and plum. Dark purples have names like aubergine and grape. Some people call reddish purples magenta.

Activity: Purple potion

Mix a few drops of red and blue food colouring in a jar of water. Your child adds one more drop of either colour and watches the purple change. Name each new shade together.

Talking about purple

Talk about purple foods: “Grapes can be purple or green. Which ones do we have today?” Foods that come in more than one colour are great for comparing.
