Free Sight Word “right” Worksheet for Kids
“Right” can mean correct (that’s right!) or the opposite of left (turn right). Both meanings come up a lot in school.
The “right” page at a glance
Children trace “right”, write it from memory, hunt for it among night, light, write, rig and fight, and finish by tracing “That is right!”.
Helping your child learn “right”
Right has the igh spelling, which says “eye”, as in night and light. Underline igh and read a family of words together: right, night, light, might. Then play a direction game: hold up your right hand, hop on your right foot. A sticker on the right hand helps.
Play Left or right?
Put a sticker on your child’s right hand. Give instructions: touch your right ear, hop on your left foot, turn right. Speed up as they get confident.
Example sentences
- That is right!
- Turn right at the shop.
- Hold up your right hand.
- You got it right.
On the Dolch second grade list, “right” sits at number 27 of 46. Children often learn it between ages 7–8, building on the first grade words.
Where to go next
After this one, move on to “write” and “first” (write sounds the same, and first is about order).
Parents ask about “right”
What does igh say?
In right, night and light, the letters igh make the long i sound. The g and h are silent.
Is right the same as write?
They sound the same but mean different things. Write is about pencils and words. Both are on the second grade list.
