How to teach with this pack
Do one or two sheets a day in the week before Easter rather than the whole pack at once. This order works well:
- Start with the picture chart (5 minutes). Say each word and ask one question: “What comes out of an egg? Where does a bird lay its eggs?” Spring and new life link the whole pack.
- Trace slowly, saying the sounds. Start each letter at the top: “e-gg, egg”, “n-e-s-t, nest”, “s-u-n, sun”.
- Beginning sounds: stretch the first sound. Egg starts with a short /e/. Chick is left off the sounds page on purpose: “ch” is two letters making one sound, which comes later.
- Counting: touch each picture once. Eight eggs is the hardest box. Then count real eggs into an egg box: it has handy rows of six.
- Story sequencing: talk before you glue. Ask “Can we find the eggs before they are hidden?” Then act the story out with paper eggs from the craft.
- Make and hide the paper eggs. Older children can write a number on the back of each egg and add them up once all are found.
- Colour the pictures last. The coloring pages are a calm way to end the egg hunt excitement.
What to expect at each age
A rough guide, not a test: children move at different speeds, and that is normal. For reference, the US Common Core asks kindergarteners to count up to 10 scattered objects (K.CC.B.5) and to hear the first sound in simple words (RF.K.2.D).
Age 3–4
- Picture chart, colouring and matching
- Counting up to 5 with real eggs
- AB patterns (egg, chick)
- Hunting for paper eggs in one room
- 10 minutes at a time
Age 4–5
- Counting up to 10, crossing off as they go
- Beginning sounds for most letters
- AB and AAB patterns
- Ordering and retelling the four story cards
- Cutting out the eggs
Age 5–7
- Word search on their own
- ABB and ABC patterns
- Adding the numbers on found eggs
- Retelling the story in full sentences
- Designing their own egg pattern
Common mistakes and quick fixes
- Hiding eggs too well. For under-fives, leave part of each egg showing.
- Expecting “ch” on the sounds page. Chick is on the chart and tracing page; the two-letter sound comes later.
- Counting eggs twice. Cross off each one as it is counted.
- Cutting into the egg. Cut on the dashed line, turning the paper rather than the scissors.
- Naming the letter instead of the sound. “/r/ for rabbit”, not “ar for rabbit”.
When is Easter 2027?
Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027, with Good Friday on 26 March. The date changes every year because Easter falls on the Sunday after the first full moon on or after the spring equinox.
What Easter means
For Christians, Easter celebrates Jesus rising from the dead and is the most important festival of the year. Eggs, chicks and spring flowers stand for new life, which is why they appear in Easter traditions around the world.
Easter in India
Good Friday is a public holiday across India, and Easter Sunday services are held in churches from Kerala and Goa to Mumbai and the north-east. Many families share a festive meal after church.

Easter worksheet questions
Are these Easter worksheets free?
Yes. Every PDF is free for home and classroom use, with no sign-up.
What age are they for?
Ages 3 to 7. See “What to expect at each age” above for which pages suit your child.
Do they include answer keys?
Yes. Beginning sounds, counting, patterns, story sequencing, maze, word search and matching have answer pages at the back of the pack and inside each single PDF.
