    Super Nani

    Ages 5–6 3-min read Superheroes

Kabir wants a superpower, so Nani takes him looking, and he discovers that helping is the best power of all.

Super Nani: kabir doing a superhero pose on the sofa with his red towel cape, Nani sitting in an armchair smiling over her glasses

Kabir wanted to be a superhero. He had a cape (a red towel), a mask (a paper plate with eye holes) and a super-pose. What he didn’t have was a superpower.

“Nani, how do I find a superpower?” he asked. Nani smiled over her glasses. “Come with me. We’ll go looking.”

Super Nani: a sunny park: Nani shaking a small packet of cat treats under a tree as a little ginger kitten climbs down, Kabir watching, impressed

First stop: the park. A kitten was stuck up a tree, mewing. Nani didn’t fly. She just shook a packet of cat treats. Down came the kitten, purring.

“Super Treat-Shaking Power,” whispered Kabir, very impressed.

Super Nani: nani sitting on a shop step patiently untangling a kite string for a small boy, Kabir holding the colourful kite

Next stop: the corner shop. A little boy was crying because his kite string was in a terrible tangle. Nani sat on the step and untangled it, one loop at a time.

    “Super Patience Power,” said Kabir.

Super Nani: kabir carefully carrying a small pot of soup with both hands to the next-door house, Nani walking beside him, a man with a tissue smiling at the door

On the way home, they saw Mr. Fernandes next door, sneezing at his window. Achoo! That evening, Nani made a pot of hot soup, and Kabir carried it over, very, very carefully.

Mr. Fernandes took one sip. “I feel better already!” he smiled.

Super Nani: kabir tying his red towel cape around Nani’s shoulders in their living room, Nani laughing

Back home, Kabir thought hard. Then he took off his red cape and tied it around Nani’s shoulders.

“Nani, you’re a real superhero,” he said. “Your superpower is helping.” Nani laughed. “Then you have it too. You carried the soup!”

Super Nani: kabir and Nani walking hand in hand through a sunny park, both wearing red capes

The next day, there were two superheroes in the park. One was very small, and one was a little bit wobbly, but they were both super.
