Sunny, the Unicorn Who Was Always Late
Ages 5–6 3-min read Unicorns
Sunny keeps stopping to help on her way to the Rainbow Fair, and arrives late, but with exactly what the fair needs.

Sunny the unicorn had one job at the Rainbow Fair: to get there on time. “The fair starts at sunset,” said Mayor Owl. “Don’t be late, Sunny!”
Sunny set off at a trot. But soon she heard a sniffle. A little rabbit had lost his way home.

“Hop on,” said Sunny, and she carried him all the way to his burrow. As he said thank you, Sunny’s horn gave a tiny glow.
Trot, trot. Next, she found a duckling tangled in the reeds. Sunny nudged her free. Glow went her horn, a little brighter.

Then a family of hedgehogs needed to cross the stream. Sunny pushed a log across and held it steady with her nose. “Thank you, Sunny!” Glow, glow, GLOW!
But now the sun was going down. “Oh no,” gasped Sunny. “I’m late!” She galloped as fast as her hooves could go.

At the fair, everyone was standing in the gloom. “The lantern-lighter is stuck in the mud,” said Mayor Owl sadly. “Without light, there can be no fair.”
Sunny trotted in, puffing and panting. And her horn… her horn was shining like a little star.

“All that helping has filled it up with light!” hooted Mayor Owl. Sunny touched her horn to the first lantern. It glowed. Then the next, and the next.
Soon the whole fair twinkled with rainbow lights. The rabbit, the duckling and the hedgehogs came to dance too.

“Late again, Sunny,” smiled Mayor Owl. “But just in time.”
