Teaching tips for “take”
Take follows the a-e pattern: the e at the end makes the a say its name, as in make and cake. Write tak, then add the e and read both. Use it in sharing games: take one, give one. Your child takes a counter each time they read a card correctly.
Try this game: Take one, leave one
Put a pile of buttons or beads in the middle. Draw cards that say take one, take two or give one. Your child reads each card and acts it out. Count who has the most at the end.
What to learn next
Good next words are “give” and “thank”, because give is take’s opposite, and thank you often follows taking something.
