A simple way to teach “us”

Us is easy to blend, u-s, but the s often sounds like a soft hiss. Teach it with we: we play (we do the action), play with us (the action comes to us). Then plan family activities: will you come with us to the park? Draw a picture of “us”.

Read these together

  • Come with us.
  • Mum read to us.
  • Let us go now.
  • The dog ran to us.

Quick game – Pass it to us

Sit in a group. The leader says “pass it to us” and everyone moves an object towards the group. Change it up: pass it to me, pass it to Dad.

“us”: number 36 of 46, Dolch second grade list, typical ages 7–8. Review the first grade words first if it feels hard.
