Teaching tips for “fly”

Fly starts with the blend fl and ends with y saying “eye”. Teach it with by, my and why, which share the ending. Then flap your arms and fly around the room, landing only when your child reads the fly card. Talk about things that can fly and things that cannot.

Try this game: Can it fly?

Call out animals and objects: bird, fish, plane, car, butterfly. Your child flaps their arms and says “fly!” if it can fly, or stays still if it cannot.

What to learn next

Good next words are “by” and “over”, because by shares the same ending, and over describes where things fly.
